It will be a while before it is open to public beta testing. Possibly
years.

Check back in about 2 years, there may be a Beta 1 version by then.

No, Windows 7 is the code name for the next Windows
operating system that is now in the very early stages of development.
It will not "replace" Windows Vista, but will supersede it
with advanced technology. Please see the following:

Carey's answer still stands. Microsoft Beta Testers are typically by
invitation only and closed to the public. Once the code reaches a certain
point, Microsoft often releases pre-release code to the public (betas and
releace candidates) and accepts bug reports and feedback.

If all you want to do is use Windows 7 before it is released, you don't need
to do anything except wait for a public preview. If you want to Beta Test
Windows 7, then submit your request at the link provided.

i did, but there seems to be nothing about windows 7. i just have a
question. how do you get invited for beta testing? how does that work? i'm
not 100% sure of that. because i was invited to beta test vista and office
2007.

Please see the following:

Supercede-

take the place or move into the position of;

So yes, if it supercedes Vista, it will take the place of Vista.

From My understading, it will be mostly like MCE 2005 was to XP. Significant
changes and updates, but still the same OS at the core.

Changes may include a multi touch interface, and a new build of explorer.

The Beta was only up for about 15 minutes and then MicroShifty took it
down; supposedly to add more servers, but I heard that the Beta was only
supposed to be put out to those who had top-level subscriptions to the
TechNet system.

Oh, c'mon... I downloaded the beta yesterday at around 1400 eastern. From
the public site. You seem pretty impatient for someone who confers the
nickname 'MicroShifty" on a company from which you want to download free
software. Yah, you were screwed royally. Totally, dude.

Well, you can download free software (including operating systems) from
many other companies, and that doesn't make them any more special.
Mozilla, Opera, Canonical, Red Hat, Novell and others are examples :)

Nevertheless, saying "MicroShifty" is kind of unpolite, I agree.
